Health Clubs Turning Gray

What’s the fastest growing segment of health club members? It’s baby boomers. Membership at health clubs among adults 55 and older rose to 10 million from 1.5 back in 1987. “For the first time, we have a cohort of people who are just getting ready to retire and have an expectation of being physically active,” said Wojtek J. Chodzko-Zajko, an exercise scientist and expert in fitness at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.”

Canada Wins Hockey GOLD

In a tight game that ended in overtime, Canada came out a winner against the US team, thanks to a sudden-death goal in OT. The US had scored in the last 30 seconds of regular time to put the game into overtime. Final score 3-2.

US Gets Gold in Bobsled

Steve Holcomb, riding his 4-man bobsled “night train”, was awarded a Gold Medal in the Olympics for the USA. It’s the first gold in 4-man bobsled in nearly 60 years..

Vonn Crashes on Giant Slalom

vonn-2-24Lidsey Vonn crashed making her first run on the Giant Slalom.  Ironically, teammate Julia Mancuso was also on the track at the same time, and was flagged down half way through.  Mancuso was taken back to the top again and raced one more time, but by then the hill was chopped from other racers and Mancuso could only manage an 18th place finish.  A second run is still planned so Julia has another chance to better her place…

Bode Miller Goes For Second Gold Medal

Bode Miller already has a Bronze, Siver and Gold medal from the 2010 Olympics. He’s now going for a second Gold as he competes in the Giant Slalom. Miller has excelled in this years Olympics after a poor performance four years ago at the Torino 2006 olympics.

Oregon Beats Arizona in Double OT

TUCSON, Ariz. — Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli watched as red-clad Arizona students ringed the sidelines as time ticked down, ready to rush the field.

“I saw it and I actually smirked,” Masoli said. “It was kind of funny. I wasn’t really worried about it.”

The Ducks’ gifted quarterback ruined the celebration in Arizona Stadium and started another one in Eugene.

LeMond and Trek Move On

The dispute between Greg LeMond and Trek moved closer to a jury trial yesterday when U.S. District Court Judge Richard Kyle heard oral arguments connected to the case, and deferred ruling on two summary judgment motions.

He suggested to both parties that an out-of-court settlement is considered in order to avoid what could be an explosive trial next spring.

“We’re certainly not averse to settling it,” said LeMond’s attorney Jamie DiBoise, according to New York Daily News. Trek attorney Ralph Weber indicated that both sides would meet soon to decide availability for settlement talks.
